Bloomington Community Education offers Enrichment classes to K - 12 youth, as well as some limited Preschool classes.  Classes are held after school in the elementary schools, and evenings and weekends at other district locations.  Some classes are located at class provider locations.  Classes are taught by local youth program vendors and school district staff who have a passion and commitment to working with children.

Classes are available year-round and can be found in our catalog, which is delivered to Bloomington homes three times per year: August, December, and March.  In the catalog you will find information regarding all our programs and classes for Early Learners, Young Learners, and Adult Learners.  Take a look at our catalogs.

Youth Enrichment

Community Education Youth Enrichment offers a variety of summer, school year, and evening enrichment, education and recreation opportunities for children of all ages.

Classes are available on an on-going basis at a variety of school locations throughout the school district in the areas of:

  • creative, visual, and performing arts
  • self-reliance and esteem building
  • academic and recreational enrichment
  • self-defense (including kung-fu and karate) 
  • recreational and educational sports

Registration for Winter/Spring 2020 Youth Enrichment classes is now open! Registration for Summer 2020 classes and camps opens March 11.

Registration Information 


  • Cancellations that are customer-initiated must be received within five or more business days in order to qualify for a full refund, minus at $10 processing fee, per person, for each class cancelled. 
  • Cancellations made less than 5 business days prior to the start of the class will not be eligible for a refund.
  • There are no refunds issued after the class has begun.
  • Community Education reserves the right to cancel a class that does not meet the minimum enrollment.


Music education opportunities are for students age 7 through adult. Our current options include piano lessons only.

We offer affordable, individual, weekly 30 minute lessons for piano. Beginners through advanced students are welcome!

Bloomington Community Education partners with A+ Driving School to offer two options for Driver's Education programs. 

Winter 2020 class schedule

Classroom Instruction and Behind the Wheel

  • Cost is $395
    • A $70 deposit is paid to Bloomington Community Education when registering for the class. 
    • The additional $325 is paid directly to A+ Driving School. 
    • $85 is paid in class to receive your Blue Card.
    • The remaining $80 is paid during your Behind the Wheel lesson.
  • Students may register if they are 14 1/2 years of age.

Driver's Education: Behind-the-Wheel

  • Cost is $295
    • A $35 deposit is paid to Bloomington Community Education to receive your Blue Card. This fee is non-refundable.
    • The additional $260 is paid directly to A+ Driving School. Contact A+ Driving School to discuss payment options.

  • After completion of the high school classroom instruction classes (taught at Jefferson and Kennedy high schools), the student will receive a letter of completion and information about registering for the six hours of behind-the-wheel training with A+ Driving School.

Registration for SLAM 2020 Camps opens on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

Summer of Laughs, Adventures, and More (SLAM) programs bring together a diverse list of enrichment opportunities over the summer for students entering grades K-8. The program is fee-based with a catalog that is sent home each spring. More than 100 camps are offered every summer.

SLAM camps are scheduled as five-day camps and are offered as a morning or afternoon option or a full-day option with a supervised lunch.  

2020 Camps will once again be held at Olson Middle School.

New in 2020! SLAM Camps will be part of the Summer Enrichment catalog delivered to all Bloomington residents.

2020 Summer Junior Musical: The Adventures of Dr. Dolittle

"Who would have believed that animals have their own side of things?" The classic tale of kindness to animals trots, crawls and flies onto the stage in The Adventures of Dr. Dolittle. All the characters we've come to love through the stories of Hugh Lofting are given new life in the stage version of one very special doctor with a deep understanding and love of animals, when he finds he is able to speak with them! 

The Summer Junior Musical is for students in Grades 3 - 8. Registration opens on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

The show is produced by Homeward Bound Theatre Company featuring a new director this year.


Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Oak Grove Middle School auditorium and music room.

  • June 15 - 18, June 22 - 25
  • June 29 - July 2**
  • July 6 - 9
  • July 13 - 15

There is a mandatory half hour parent meeting on the first day of rehearsal, June 15 at 8:30 a.m. Information on auditions and activities for the week of June 29 - July 2 will be given out at that time.

There is not a formal audition for this show. All students registered will have a part in the performance.

Registration is $325. A minimum of 25 students are needed to run this class.

GRASP is a nine week correspondence program for grades K - 8 that helps students maintain reading and math skills while they are on summer vacation. 

An online version of the correspondence program is available for grades 4 - 8. Students receive immediate feedback on their completed lessons.

Enrollment Fee

  • $36 for one subject
  • $61 for both reading and math


We suggest parents order the grade level just completed. If your child is working at a different grade level, please order the most appropriate grade level.
