The Indian Education program has created a culture trunk to assist classroom teachers in improving students' understanding of Minnesota's Indian nations. The trunk contains teacher background information, books, DVDs and curriculum aligned to social studies and language arts standards that teach about Ojibwe and Dakota. The trunk also includes hands-on learning tools such as
- a replica of Lone Wolf's Winter Count buffalo robe
- buffalo bladder
- birchbark and black ash baskets
- ring and pin games
- ricing sticks
- parfleche quiver and satchel
and more!
The culture trunk can be checked out by any Bloomington Public School teacher or grade-level team for three weeks by filling out the online request form.
The culture trunk was funded through a grant from the Education Foundation of Bloomington.
